Our Activities

The Rift Valley Railways Workers Union (K) having been registered through a Court Order following the Refusal by the Registrar of Trade Union to have same registered, did acquire, by the operation of law, the mandate to conduct the activities as are understated for the benefit of the would be members of the union and for the general improvement of the status of Industrial Relations System in the country.

Towards this end the union mandate on behalf of its members shall include but not limited to the following:-

  1. Organising the workers working within the Rail Sector in the country so that they speak with one voice and in an organised manner.

 

  1. Represent their interests and concerns as against the employer so that as a player within the Industrial Relations System in the Rail Sector and the country the workers interests in the said sector are protected and secured.

 

  1. Fight for better terms of service and conditions of work for its members and in ensuring that the provisions of the law are adhered to.

 

  1. Ensure that the interests of its members are secured through a Collective Bargaining Agreement document to signed periodically.

 

  1. Shall encourage Pre-court procedures for dispute resolutions for disputes as may emanate within the work environment and that such disputes are procedurally and amicably resolved and or addressed at the earliest convenience through arbitration and or conciliation, and other available Industrial Relation Machineries as may be available before having same escalated to the courts.

 

  1. Shall determine its own Constitution and rules and shall hold elections for its office bearers.

 

  1. Shall participate in the formation of Federation of Trade Union in one where it is in the interests of members so to do.

 

  1. Affiliate with and participate in the affairs of international unions and labour organisations.

 

  1. The union shall organise seminars and study circle programs that shall ensure that the shop stewards and the union officials from the shop floor level through the branches to the National office are subjected to constant training and sensitization programs and which knowledge shall then be expected to be cascaded down to the members at the shop floor level.

 

  1. Shall endeavour to liaise with management for the benefit of its members in ensuring the fact that members are able to access better Health services and that they are able to access credit facilities with financial institutions at affordable costs and with sureties.

 

  1. Shall ensure that structures are in place that would care for the interest of the members long after they shall have retired from active service employment
